Preparing for an Interview and Beyond
You have your career objectives in place; you've sent off a fab covering
letter and CV and you now have an interview scheduled. What now?
Remember the simple 5P rule “Proper Preparation Prevents Poor
Performance”.
- Ensure you have confirmed the date and time of your interview
and who will be interviewing you.
- Allow for enough time to get to the interview with some extra
time for unplanned incidents ie: traffic, roadworks etc. TIP:
Allow even extra time to ‘sit’ back and relax in the
reception, to calm yourself and ‘take in’ the atmosphere and
culture of the environment, you will learn a great deal by doing
this.
- Research in advance the spa/salon's ethics, values, culture,
mission statement, growth, service menu, price point, typical
client profile/demographics
- Be true to yourself and your interviewer and you cant go too
wrong: The interview is a chance to perform at your best, but not
a place to act. With the high turnover in such a transient
industry such as ours, recruiters are getting more and more in
tune with the so-called ‘Actors’. Target your interviewer's
needs but ‘keeping it real’ is the best approach.
- Image - Get it together:
Plan what you are going to wear and ensure it reveals your
personality, but remains professional. Careful attention to detail
is vital. Particularly in the aesthetics industry. Most of us look
our best at interviews, so ensure you look immaculate.
