How to spot a great employer
There are no perfect businesses as there are no perfect people, in any industry. As the Spa industry is in a stage of exponential growth, we will start to see more and more competitiveness between recruiters in order to recruit and retain the best employees. The best businesses have some of the features listed below but few if any, have all of them*. It is therefore up to you to decide which are the most important issues for your career objectives, and investigate the salons/spas fully prior to accepting a job offer.
- Realistic Growth & Promotional opportunities - do they have performance appraisals in place?
- Flexible work arrangements - a give and take relationship provides a win-win situation for all
- Socially & Environmentally responsible
- Profit Sharing potential - are there rewards in place for exceeding budgets?
- Opportunity for each team member to make a difference - do they hold regular team meetings? Have an Open Door Policy?
- Are your individual talents are recognized ….. and celebrated
- Policies & Procedures - are actually implemented? Does the business 'walk their talk'?
- Does it seem to be a caring environment - after all we are in the service industry caring for others
- Do they recognise and appreciate the importance of a Work / Life Balance?
- Career Planning - do they have systems in place to test, assess and develop BOTH your strengths and weaknesses - and actually act upon them?
