Performance Appraisals - are you practicing these? If not - you should be!

The skills of interviewing and appraising are absolutely essential if you are going to get the best from your staff. You need to find a balance between motivating, providing constructive criticism, understanding and praising all at the same in order to create an harmonious and productive environment

The expected outcome:

  • To improve performance and develop individual employees by means of well-prepared honest and open discussion, within an agreed and pre determined framework.
  • To focus on the behaviours, issues and problems, constructive development to improve motivation and employee growth and performance.
  • To ensure that all staff members are meeting set criteria, targets and personal job development in line with your Employee Contracts. Better understand each employees potential and needs
  • To improve the communication process and tackle any potential underlying problems before they arise

For an Appraisal to work - there needs to be willingness from both parties. Thorough preparation by both Appraiser and Employee - to come prepared with all relevant documentation, questions, forward planning ideas, wants and needs, issues and concerns - to further discuss and put strategic plans in place.

Let your Employese know that for every issue or problem raised during his or her Appraisal, they need to come prepared with 2-3 solutions for each concern. You will be surprised what ideas you will be presented with.

Once you implement a simple Appraisal system into your operational Policies and Procedures you will be amazed at how smoothly your team dynamics and communication flows.
